The journal is co-directed by Melissa Birkhofer of Appalachian State University and Lorna Perez of Buffalo State University.<\/p>\n<p>The journal publishes new issues each Fall and Spring, with special themed issues in the Summer. We invite rolling submissions of work on Latina\/o\/x\/e literatures and literary production, with a focus on the 20th and 21st centuries.\u00a0 <b><i>Label Me Latina\/o<\/i><\/b> also publishes creative literary pieces by authors who self-define as Latina, Latino, Latinx, or Latine regardless of thematic content. Interviews of Latina, Latino, Latinx, or Latine authors will also be considered. The Co-Directors will publish creative works and scholarly essays in English or Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><u>Preparation of Scholarly Submissions:\u00a0<\/u><\/h4>\n<p>Scholarly submissions should not exceed 10,000 words, including the works cited. Manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word in the following manner:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">uses MLA Style citation (MLA 9)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">double-spaced (no extra space between paragraphs)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">standard 12-point, Times New Roman font<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">paginated top right<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">footnotes rather than endnotes<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">If using a citation manager or template document, please make sure field codes are removed before submission.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When preparing your manuscript, please pay particular attention to the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">The document correctly uses MLA formatting with parenthetical citation\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">The Works Cited page lists only those sources directly referenced in the manuscript, and is prepared in correct MLA style (including spacing).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">Direct quotation is in line with fair use standards. It is the author&#8217;s responsibility to secure copyright permission for quotations that go beyond fair-use standards (particularly important for quotations of poetry)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">The manuscript is <b>not <\/b>under consideration elsewhere\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><u>Preparation of Creative Works:\u00a0<\/u><\/h4>\n<p>Manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word, and submissions of poetry, essays, and short fiction should not exceed 7,000 words.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">The formatting standards should conform to the same standards as scholarly work: 12-point font; Times New Roman; double-spaced; paginated top right; no field codes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">Please keep the use of illustrations or other kinds of images to a minimum. It is the author&#8217;s responsibility to secure copyright permission for image use.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">We <b>will<\/b> accept simultaneous submissions of creative works, though if the work is accepted elsewhere, it is the author&#8217;s responsibility to contact other journals and withdraw the work in a timely manner.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Work that does not conform to the guidelines above will be returned to the author for revision before it is sent out for review.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Original, unpublished submissions in Microsoft Word should be sent electronically to Melissa Birkhofer and Lorna Perez at \u00a0<\/b><a href=\"mailto:labelmelatinejournal@gmail.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>labelmelatinejournal@gmail.<wbr \/>com<\/b><\/a><b>. Make sure that the actual manuscript bears no reference to the author\u2019s name or institution. Include the following information in the body of the email:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">Full name<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">Institutional Affiliation<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">Telephone number<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">Email address<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">Regular mail address<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">Title of the submission<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span role=\"presentation\">A brief biography<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Please add <\/b><a href=\"mailto:labelmelatinejournal@gmail.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>labelmelatinejournal@gmail.com<\/b><\/a><b><wbr \/>\u00a0to your contact list, so our communications do not make their way into your spam folders!\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Label Me Latina\/o<\/i><\/b> is an academic journal and, as such, follows the parameters of definitions set by the academic community. In that community, when we refer to Latina\/o\/x\/e Literatures, we are referring to writers of Latin American heritage who live and write in the United States. Some of these writers write in Spanish, others write in Spanglish like the Nuyorican Poets, and many of them write in English with a little Spanish thrown in (or not). Scholarly essays should address the work of these writers. The authors of these scholarly essays may be of any ethnicity or nationality. Creative works should be authored by writers who self-identify as Latina\/o\/x\/e and reside in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Label Me Latina\/o <\/i><\/b>is indexed by the MLA International Bibliography, is listed in the MLA Directory of Periodicals, and is a member of Latinoamericana: Asociaci\u00f3n de revistas acad\u00e9micas en Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales. Our articles are discoverable on EBSCO<i>host<\/i>\u00a0and Gale Research databases.
